I only first caught wind of Vic today with his verse on Kidz In The Hall’s I Swear (I know… #latepass). Liking what I heard in both that and the bonus track in that post w/ Chance the Rapper, I was glad to see his name pop up in the inbox today.

Vic Spencer - The Way An Intro Should Sound
This is a video that was shot in the Summer previous to Vic Greenthumbs and is actually off of VI’s Go Louis mixtape. If you don’t already have Go Louis do yourself a favor and get that, it’s produced entirely by Black Spade and boasts features from Black Spade, Vic Mensa, Sulaiman, Tef Poe & More.
Vic Spencer makes his mixtape return with a project that his been in the works for quite some time now Go Louis. The mixtape is a collaborative effort between Chicago MC Vic and St. Louis producer Black Spade so the title was kind of a given. Vic had been a fan of Black Spade for a minute before he was blessed with an opportunity to rock a show with him a year or so ago in St. Louis. Upon linking for the show VI and Spade formed a bond in which Vic was essentially given the go ahead to choose from an insane collection of Spade beats. This mixtape’s progression spans pretty much from the completion of Vic Magorium’s Hip-Hop Emporium through the Disappointed mixtape sessions all the way up until about a week ago when the final verses were laid for the project. The tape contains 12 songs featuring both St. Louis and Chicago MCs such as Naledge, Tef Poe, Sulaiman, Nato Caliph, Vic Mensa and even Black Spade himself.

Last night I hit up VI to inquire about a song he sent me months ago to see if I could post it, being that it’s been burning a hole in my hard drive for a couple months. Didn’t get the go ahead on posting it quite yet, but VI sent over a BRAND NEW joint from Black Spade’s SXSW Mixtape. This joint features a very bare bones sample and some really tight verses. Once I get the go ahead on the other joint I’mma post it, but until then….
PS. The Go Louis project with VI and Black Spade comes out late spring and the ‘We’re Just Disappointed’ EP with Sulaiman will be out in the next month or so.
